Staying at Coco Grove Beach Resort during my first visit to Siquijor just felt right. Not only was the resort impressive, but it also made me fall even more in love with the island. With its great vibe and heartfelt hospitality, I seriously had no reason to look elsewhere.
Also, big thanks to Sunlight Air’s new direct flights from Cebu to Siquijor; the journey couldn’t have been easier. In less than an hour, I found myself landing on the beautiful Island of Fire, ready for my very first Siquijor adventure.
From the moment we arrived, the experience already felt special. We were welcomed at the airport by the energetic Coco Grove Beach Resort ladies, dancing to island beats, all smiles, and full of life.

I’m finally in Siquijor!

One of the dancers turned out to be our guide, and her warmth and energy made the short ride from the airport to the resort feel even shorter. If you get to meet Joey, she’s great!

At Coco Grove, the welcome was grander. We were greeted with refreshing welcome drinks, and while waiting for our room, we were led to one of the resort’s many restaurants for lunch.

The food was delicious, but what really stood out was the view! Enjoying a good meal while overlooking the sea is always a win, if you ask me.

Here’s the team waiting for lunch!

When everyone was full, I took time to walk around and explore the resort. Coco Grove is massive, yet incredibly well-maintained. I was honestly blown away.

Most of the guests that I saw were foreign tourists, already enjoying Siquijor like seasoned visitors, while I was there, wondering why it was my first time. Hehe. It was nice seeing how the island has quietly become a favorite among international travelers.

I also learned that the resort property is divided into two sections, with a fisherman’s village in between. This area allows locals and non-guests access to the public beach, which I thought was a very thoughtful and mindful setup. This is definitely something you don’t see often in large resorts.
Eventually, it was time to head to our room. We were assisted (once again) by Joey, our tour guide, who also happens to be a front desk clerk (amazing, right?) We stayed in a villa with a gorgeous view of the beach, the pool, and the sunset. Honestly, it’s one of those views that you just want to take in as slowly as possible.

Since we didn’t explore the island on our first day, we had plenty of time to enjoy the room and the surroundings.
In the afternoon, we gathered by the beach and boarded a small boat that took us to a waiting yacht for a sunset cruise.

It was such a lovely experience. We enjoyed great views of the island, delicious bites, cool drinks, and good company. Yassi even joined us, making the whole cruise even more fun and memorable.

We got an amazing view of some of the spots we will be visiting the next day.

That evening, as soon as we docked, Coco Grove treated us to a beachfront dinner complete with live musical performances by the staff and an impressive fire dance show that left everyone in awe. It felt intimate, festive, and very island-style.

The following day, after a hearty breakfast, it was finally time to explore Siquijor. I had so much fun discovering the island, and I’ll be sharing more about all our stops in a separate post soon. That night, when we arrived back at the resort, we joined the dinner buffet and were once again treated to amazing entertainment, this time poolside. Joey surprised us all by showing off her singing skills, performing with the rest of the team.
After dinner, we headed to the resort’s theater for the grand show. For more than an hour, we watched incredible dances, songs, and performances. This is something you definitely won’t find in most resorts. It was the perfect way to cap off an already unforgettable stay.
The next morning, after breakfast, it was time to leave Siquijor. I honestly didn’t want to leave. But I know that I can always come back. And I definitely will.

Thank you, Sunlight Air, Coco Grove Beach Resort, and Siquijor, for such an amazing first experience. This won’t be my last, I promise!
