On our last day in Seoul, we decided to go shopping (using whatever money we had left) for souvenir items and pasalubong in Myeongdong. Now, when you say shopping, one district in Seoul always comes to mind – Myeong-dong or simply Myeongdong. Myeongdong is a commercial district in Seoul which is considered one of the city’s most important and most visited shopping and cultural spots. Named one of the most expensive shopping streets in the world, the district houses mid to high-end international brand outlets and home-grown retail stores.
Myeongdong is a fascinating place. And if you ever find yourself traveling to Seoul in South Korea, be sure to include Myeong-dong in your tour itinerary.
Here are some of the things that I saw during my visit to the famous Myeong-dong.
Getting to Myeongdong
If you want to find a good Airbnb house in Seoul, one of the best areas to look at is Dongja-dong (where we stayed.) It is very close to Seoul Station where you can get on a train to almost all points in Seoul.
From Seoul Station, you simply have to walk a few hundred meters to reach the beautiful sky bridge. The sky bridge connects the station to various other districts in Seoul and it’s completely breath-taking and totally walkable.
The view from the sky bridge is gorgeous, too!
Our exit led us to another district in the city that is only a couple of blocks away from Myeongdong. The sky bridge is so convenient!
Myeongdong
Finally, after walking for a couple of blocks, we were able to reach Myeongdong.
Myeong-dong is a maze of designer brand outlets, home-grown product stores, restaurants, and food hawkers.
Items in Myeongdong can be a bit expensive. Most branded stores set a fixed price for their products. You can put your haggling skills to good use, however, when you decide to visit smaller ones.
Culinary Adventure in Myeongdong
And the best thing about Myeongdong is the abundance of food hawkers along its narrow streets. I ate a whole lot and it ended up being a pretty bad idea because I no longer had enough cash to buy the things that I liked. Haha.
Anyway, here are some of the food hawkers in Myeongdong:
