by “Hiyas sa Kadayawan” is one of the most-awaited events during the whole Kadayawan Festival celebrations in Davao City. Hiyas is a pageant that puts the spotlight on the maidens from each tribe. For this unique pageant, it is not beauty that takes center stage. Instead, the ladies must show their talent and their knowledge about their very own culture. More importantly, they must be able to represent the whole region.
The Kadayawan Festival is a yearly event that focuses on how united the local tribes of Davao City are despite their different beliefs, cultures, and traditions. As residents of the city, they all come together each year to showcase their very rich cultures. In addition, they support each other in their quest for recognition and respect.
