The St. Francis de Assisi Parish Church in Siquijor is often the first landmark that welcomes visitors arriving on the island. Sitting just across the port and next to the town plaza, it’s one of those places you’ll likely see right away.
But beyond being a familiar sight, it turned out to be something more for me. A quiet pause in the middle of a busy trip.
This visit was part of our Siquijor trip made possible by Sunlight Air, which now flies regularly from Cebu City to Siquijor. Along with fellow Cebu media, bloggers, and content creators, we were exploring the island and everything it had to offer.
And we started our quite long second day here.

The St. Francis de Assisi Parish Church
If you’re arriving via the Siquijor port, this church is hard to miss. Its coral stone façade and distinct dome give it a quiet presence that stands out without being overwhelming.

Right outside, the “Welcome to Siquijor” signage has become a popular photo spot. It’s the kind of place where people naturally stop, take a few photos, and move on.

That’s what I initially thought it would be, too. But stepping inside felt different.
Slowing Down, Even Just for a Bit
The moment you enter the parish church, everything softens.
The noise from outside fades, and you’re left with a calm, steady atmosphere that makes you slow down without even realizing it.

Some of us lit candles. Others just sat for a while. No one was really in a rush.
After a full first day of travel and activities, this stop felt like a much-needed reset. Nothing grand or dramatic, just a simple moment to breathe.
And sometimes, that’s exactly what you need.

More Than Just a Quick Stop
It would’ve been easy to treat this as just another quick stop on the itinerary. A landmark, a photo opportunity, then off to the next destination.
But it didn’t feel that way.
There was something grounding about being there, even if only for a short time. Maybe it was the stillness. Maybe it was the contrast from the usual fast pace of travel. Or maybe it was just the timing. Whatever it was, it stayed with me.

A Different Kind of Travel Moment
Siquijor is known for its beaches, waterfalls, and scenic drives. And yes, we experienced those, too.
But this visit reminded me that not all travel moments have to be big or exciting to matter. Sometimes, it’s the quiet ones that stay with you. The ones where nothing much is happening, but you feel completely present.
And in the middle of a full itinerary, this visit to St. Francis de Asisi Parish Church became exactly that.
A moment of calm I didn’t know I truly needed.
