LEY - Paliton Beach

In the Swing of Things at Paliton Beach

There is something about Paliton Beach that makes you want to slow down the moment you arrive. Maybe it is the way the trees lean gently toward the shore, or how the sand feels under your feet. Or maybe it is just Siquijor doing what it does best, quietly pulling you into its rhythm.

The trip to Paliton Beach was part of our Siquijor trip with Sunlight Air, and by this point, I had already begun to understand why people keep coming back to this island. I know I’ve seen tons of videos and read numerous blogs about it, but I get it now.

Paliton Beach is often described as one of the best beaches in Siquijor, and it is easy to see why. The shoreline is wide and powdery, with fine white sand that stays cool even under the sun. The water is usually calm and shallow near the shore, making it ideal for swimming. It is also known as one of the best sunset spots in Siquijor, where the sky slowly shifts into warm hues as the day ends.

Unlike more commercialized beaches, Paliton keeps things laid-back. No large resort or commercial strip is dominating the area. Instead, you will find small local setups run by locals, a few cottages for rent, and shaded areas under coconut trees where you can just sit and relax. Entrance fees are minimal, and parking is straightforward, which adds to its accessibility.

But what really caught my attention during this visit was something a bit more playful. Well, it didn’t actually ‘catch my attention’ because to be honest, I’d been looking forward to it.

It was the beach swing.

When I saw it in person, I knew that I had to give it a try!

The idea is simple but surprisingly fun. You sit on the swing, and instead of a drone flying overhead, someone runs around (or underneath) you with a camera, capturing dynamic angles as you swing back and forth. It sounds a bit funny at first, but once you see how the shots turn out, it makes perfect sense.

Take a look at how the shots were actually made. It takes a lot of effort and artistry. And definitely deserves the Php50 fee.

I know this will sound cheesy, but once you’re on the swing, for a few seconds, everything just feels light and all right. The ocean in front of you, the sky stretching endlessly above, and the sound of waves blending with laughter from the shore. Everything is amazing!

It was one of those experiences that ended up being a highlight. Not because it was grand or extravagant, but because it fit perfectly with the vibe of Paliton Beach. Relaxed, a little quirky, and genuinely enjoyable.

Not far from the swing area, you will also find a row of small seafood and souvenir stands. This is where the beach feels even more local. Fresh catch can be found right by the shore, and some vendors will prepare them for you on the spot.

A few of us from the group could not resist trying Swaki, freshly opened and served right there by the beach. It was one of those spontaneous food moments that made the experience even more memorable. I didn’t try it because I don’t normally eat it, but from the looks of it, my friends really had a swell time.

After the swing and a bit of snacking, I spent some time just walking along the shore. No shot list, no goal. Just taking it all in. The kind of moment you do not really plan for, but end up remembering the most.

This visit to Paliton Beach was a nice continuation of my Siquijor journey. Each stop on this island has its own personality, and this one leaned into simple joys. Sun, sand, sea, good food, and a swing that turned a quiet afternoon into something a bit more memorable.

If you find yourself in Siquijor, take your time when you get here. Come earlier in the day if you want fewer crowds, or stay until late afternoon for that signature sunset. Sit under the trees, watch the water, maybe try the swing, and do not skip the local seafood by the shore.

You do not need much to enjoy Paliton Beach. Sometimes, just being there is already enough. LEY
