During my recent trip to the island of Bohol, I was able to finally drop by the National Museum of the Philippines in Bohol. The museum is a haven for history buffs and culture enthusiasts. And I must say that although I’m not really big on museums, I did have a truly awesome time here. So let me take you on a quick tour inside this gem in Tagbilaran City.
The National Museum of the Philippines in Bohol
As I stepped into the museum, I was immediately struck by the elegant architecture, a mix of neoclassical and Filipino design elements. The airy main hall was a perfect feature, giving visitors a nice look at the beauty of the building. Just like Cebu‘s very own National Museum, this one is a true beauty.

One of the most captivating exhibits I encountered was the chronological exploration of Bohol’s history. The exhibit featured the earliest inhabitants of Bohol to the Spanish colonial era and beyond. Artifacts like ancient tools, religious icons, and pottery give visitors a better understanding of the island’s history and the experiences of its people.

Another exhibit that piqued my interest was the gallery that featured the art pieces from Bohol. This section showcased the artistic talents of the Boholanos. From intricate embroidery work and woven textiles to traditional wood carvings and contemporary paintings, the exhibit offered a glimpse into the soul of Bohol’s creative spirit.

The museum also houses a fascinating collection of archaeological finds. These unearthed treasures, including burial jars and other artifacts, provided a window into the lives and rituals of Bohol’s ancestors.

My exploration of the National Museum of the Philippines Bohol wasn’t just about artifacts and exhibits. The museum also offered a glimpse into Bohol’s natural history. Dioramas depicting the island’s diverse flora and fauna, including the iconic tarsier, helped me appreciate the rich biodiversity of this beautiful island.

Beyond the Exhibits
The National Museum of the Philippines Bohol offers more than just static displays. The museum regularly hosts lectures, workshops, and cultural events that provide deeper insights into Bohol’s heritage. In fact, during my visit (which was during the Ube Festival), the guide gave an extensive talk on the cultural, historical, and economic significance of the UBI crop.
